సూక్తులు-సుభాషితాలు (41-50)

41. There are four very great events in history, the siege of Troy, the life and crucifixion of Christ, the exile of Krishna in Brindavun and the colloquy with Arjuna on the field of Kurukshetra.

The siege of Troy created Hellas, the exile in Brindavun created devotional religion, (for before there was only meditation and worship,) Christ from his cross humanised Europe, the colloquy at Kurukshetra will yet liberate humanity. Yet it is said that none of these four events ever happened

41. చరిత్రలో నాలుగు అతిగొప్ప సంఘటనలు ఉన్నాయి. అవి ట్రాయ్ నగర ఆక్రమణం, క్రీస్తు పుట్టుక, శూలోరోపణం, బృందావనం లో శ్రీకృష్ణుడి అజ్ఞాత వాసము, కురుక్షేత్రంలో కృష్ణార్జునుల సంవాదము. ట్రాయ్ ఆక్రమణంతో హెల్లాస్ పుట్టింది, బృందావనంలో అజ్ఞాతవాసం భక్తి సాంప్రదాయానికి పునాది వేసింది (అంతకు మునుపు ధ్యాన, అర్చనా పధతులే ఉండేవి.) శిలువ నుండి క్రీస్తు యూరప్ కి మానవత్వం ప్రసాదించాడు. కురుక్షేత్రంలో సంవాదం మానవతకి మోక్షమార్గాన్ని తెలిపింది. అయినా ఈ నాలుగు సంఘటనలు చరిత్రలో ఎప్పుడు జరగలేదనే అంటారు.

42. They say that the Gospels are forgeries and Krishna a creation of the poets. Thank God then for the forgeries and bow down before the creators.

42.  క్రైస్తవ ప్రవచనాలన్నీ కల్పితాలని, కృష్ణుడు కవితా సృష్టి అని అంటారు. అదే నిజమైతే ఆ కల్పితాలకి ధన్యవాదాలు, ఆ కవులకి నమోవాకాలు.

43. If God assigns to me my place in Hell, I do not know why I should aspire to Heaven. He knows best what is for my welfare.

43.  భగవంతుడు నాకు నరకంలో స్థానాన్ని నియమిస్తే నేను స్వర్గం కోసం ఎందుకు ఆకాంక్షించాలి? నాకు ఏది కావాలో ఆయనకి బాగా తెలుసు.

44. If God draw me towards Heaven, then, even if His other hand strive to keep me in Hell, yet must I struggle upward.

44.  భగవంతుడు నన్ను స్వర్గం వైపుకి లాగుతున్నప్పుడు, మరో చేతితో నన్ను నరకంలో నొక్కి పట్టినా, నేను పైకి ఎగయడానికే కృషి చేస్తాను.

45. Only those thoughts are true the opposite of which is also true in its own time and application; indisputable dogmas are the most dangerous kind of falsehoods.

45.  ఏ భావాల యొక్క వ్యతిరేక భావాలు కూడా కాలాన్ని బట్టి, ప్రయోజనాన్ని బట్టి సత్యాలుగా స్వీకృతం అవుతాయో, ఆ భావాలే నిజమైన భావాలు. శోధనకు తావీయని పిడివాదాలే అన్నిటికన్నా ప్రమాదకరమైన అసత్యాలు.

46. Logic is the worst enemy of Truth, as self-righteousness is the worst enemy of virtue; for the one cannot see its own errors nor the other its own imperfections.

46. తర్కం సత్యానికి పరమ విరోధి. అట్లాగే ఆత్మసమర్ధన  సుగుణానికి పరమ విరోధి. ఒకటి తన లోపాలను తాను గుర్తించలేదు. మరొకటి తన అపరిపూర్ణతలని తాను గుర్తించలేదు.

47. When I was asleep in the Ignorance, I came to a place of meditation full of holy men and I found their company wearisome and the place a prison; when I awoke, God took me to a prison and turned it into a place of meditation and His trysting-ground.

47. నేను అజ్ఞానంలో నిదురిస్తున్న దశలో ఒకసారి ఎందరో సాధువులు ధ్యానం చేస్తున్న ప్రదేశానికి వెళ్లాను. వారి సాంగత్యం నాకు దుర్భరంగాను, ఆ ప్రదేశం ఒక కారాగారం లాగాను తోచింది. నేను మేలుకున్న తరువాత భగవంతుడు నన్నొక కారాగారంలో ఉంచి దానినే ఒక ధ్యానవాటికగా, ఆయన సంగమస్థానంగా మార్చాడు.

48. When I read a wearisome book through and with pleasure, yet perceived all the perfection of its wearisomeness, then I knew that my mind was conquered.

48. ఒక నిస్సారమైన పుస్తకాన్ని సాంతం ప్రీతితో చదివి, దాని నిస్సారత యొక్క పరిపూర్ణతను సంపూర్ణంగా గుర్తించిననాడు,  నా మనస్సు జయించబడిందని గ్రహించాను.

49. I knew my mind to be conquered when it admired the beauty of the hideous, yet felt perfectly why other men shrank back or hated.

49. అనాకారి సౌందర్యాన్ని ఆరాధిస్తూ, ఆ రూపాన్ని అన్యులెందుకు అసహ్యించుకుంటారో సంపూర్ణంగా అనుభూతి చెందగల్గినప్పుడు, నా మనస్సు జయించబడిందని గ్రహించాను.

 

50. To feel  and love the God of beauty and good in the ugly and the evil, and still yearn in utter love to heal it of its ugliness and its evil, this is real virtue and morality.

50. కురూపంలో, దుష్టత్వంలో కూడా ఆ నిత్యసుందరుణ్ణి, పరమపావనుణ్ణి గుర్తించి ప్రేమిస్తూ, అంతటితో ఆగక ఆ కురూప దుష్టత్వాలు నయం కావాలని ప్రేమతో ఆకాంక్షించడమే నిజమైన సద్గుణం, అసలైన సదాచారం.
