సూక్తులు - సుభాషితాలు (51-60)

51. To hate the sinner is the worst sin, for it is hating God; yet he who commits it, glories in his superior virtue.

51.  పాపిని అసహ్యించుకోవడమే అతి ఘోరమైన పాపం. ఎందుకంటే అది భగవంతుణ్ణి అసహ్యించుకోవడమే. అయినా కూడా అది చేసేవాడు తన ఉన్నతిని తానే ప్రశంసించుకుంటున్నాడు.

52.  When I hear of a righteous wrath, I wonder at man's capacity for self-deception.

52. ధర్మబద్ధమైన ఆగ్రహం గురించి విన్నప్పుడు మనుషుల ఆత్మవంచనా శక్తి ఎంత గొప్పదో తెలుసుకున్నాను.

53. This is a miracle that men can love God, yet fail to love humanity. With whom are they in love then?

53. అత్యద్భుతమైన విషయం ఏంటంటే మనుషులు దేవుణ్ణి ప్రేమించగలరు గాని సాటి మానవుణ్ణి ప్రేమించలేక పోతారు. మరి ఇంతకీ వాళ్లు ఎవరిని ప్రేమిస్తున్నట్టు?

54. The quarrels of religious sects are like the disputing of pots, which shall be alone allowed to hold the immortalizing nectar. Let them dispute, but the thing for us is to get at the nectar in whatever pot and attain immortality.

54. వివిధ మతాల మధ్య స్పర్థలు, తమలో అమృతత్వాన్ని పూర్తిగా ఎవరు నింపుకొవాలా అని కలహించుకునే కుండల రీతిలో ఉంటాయి. వారిని కలహించుకోనీ. మనకి కావలసినది అమృతం ఏ కుండలో ఉన్నా గ్రహించి అమృతత్వాన్ని పొందడం.

55. You say that the flavour of the pot alters the liquor. That is taste; but what can deprive it of its immortalising faculty?

55. కుండ రుచి అమృతానికి అంటుతుంది అంటావు. అది రుచి మాత్రమే. దాని అమృతత్వపు గుణం ఎక్కడికి పోతుంది?

56. Be wide in me, O Varuna; be mighty in me, O Indra; O Sun, be very bright and luminous; O Moon, be full of charm and sweetness. Be ®erce and terrible, O Rudra; be impetuous and

swift, O Maruts; be strong and bold, O Aryama; be voluptuous and pleasurable, O Bhaga; be tender and kind and loving and passionate, O Mitra. Be bright and revealing,O Dawn; ONight,

be solemn and pregnant. O Life, be full, ready & buoyant; O Death, lead my steps from mansion to mansion. Harmonise all these, O Brahmanaspati. Let me not be subject to these gods, O

Kali.

56.  ఓ వరుణుడా! నాలో విశాలంగా కొలువుండు; ఓ ఇంద్రుడా! నాలో సర్వసమర్ధుడవై నిలువు; ఓ సూర్యుడా! తీక్షణమైన తేజంతో ప్రకాశించు; ఓ చంద్రుడా! తేనె వంటి అందాన్ని చిలికించు; ఓ రుద్రుడా! ఉగ్రుడవై భయంకరుడవగుc; ఓ మరుద్గణములారా! ప్రచండ వేగంతో విహరించండి; ఓ ఆర్యముడా! ధీరుడవై, బలవంతుడవై విలసిల్లు; ఓ భగుడా! ప్రీతిపూర్ణుడవై హ్లాదాన్ని ప్రసాదించు; ఓ మిత్రుడా! దయతో, కరుణతో, ప్రేమాతిశయంతో రాజిల్లు; ఓ ఉషాదేవీ! పూర్ణతేజంతో సర్వాన్నీ ప్రస్ఫుటం చేయి; ఓ రేయీ! నీరవమై గంభీరవై ఉండు; ఓ ప్రాణమా! నిండుగా, సంసిద్ధంగా ఉప్పొంగు; ఓ మృత్యువా! ఒక నివాసం నుండి మరో నివాసానికి నన్ను నడిపించు; ఓ బ్రాహ్మణస్పతీ! వీటన్నిటినీ సామరస్యపరుచు. ఓ కాళీ! ఈ దేవతలకు  అధీనుడను కాకుండా నన్ను కాపాడు.

57. When, O eager disputant, thou hast prevailed in a debate, then art thou greatly to be pitied; for thou hast lost a chance of widening knowledge.

57. ఓ వాదనాపరాయణుడా! వాదనలో నువ్వు ఎపుడైనా నెగ్గినపుడు నిన్ను చూసి ఎంతో జాలి పడాలి. నీ జ్ఞానాన్ని విస్తరింపజేసుకునే ఒక సదవకాశాన్ని పోగొట్టుకున్నావు.

58. Because the tiger acts according to his nature and knows not anything else, therefore he is divine and there is no evil in him. If he questioned himself, then he would be a criminal.

58. పులికి తన స్వభావానికి తగినట్టు ప్రవర్తించడం తప మరొకటి తెలియదు కనుక, తన చేష్టలలో దుష్టత్వం లోపించి దివ్యంగా ఉంటాయి. కాని తన చేష్టలను తాను ప్రశ్నించుకున్నదంటే అది హంతకుడే అవుతుంది.

59. The animal, before he is corrupted, has not yet eaten of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; the god has abandoned it for the tree of eternal life; man stands between the upper heaven and the lower nature.

59. నిష్కళంకమై ఉన్న పశువు, ధర్మాధర్మ విచక్షణ నందించే వృక్షఫలాన్ని ఎన్నడూ తిని ఎరుగదు; దేవతలు ఆ వృక్షాన్ని విడిచి సనాతన జీవనాన్ని ప్రసాదించే తరువును ఎన్నుకున్నారు; ఆ పై లోకానికి ఈ అధఃప్రకృతికి మధన నిలిచి వున్నాడు మానవుడు.

60. One of the greatest comforts of religion is that you can get hold of God sometimes and give him a satisfactory beating. People mock at the folly of savages who beat their gods when

their prayers are not answered; but it is the mockers who are the fools and the savages.

60. మతం మనిషికి ఇచ్చే గొప్ప సౌఖ్యం ఏమిటంటే కొన్ని సార్లు కోపం వచ్చినప్పుడు దేవుణ్ణి చేతబుచ్చుకుని మనసార దండించుకోవచ్చు. తమ ప్రార్థనలు ఆలకించని దేవుళ్లని దండించే అనాగరికులని చూసి కొందరు నవ్వుకుందురుగాక. కాని ఆ నవ్వేవారే మూర్ఖులు, వెక్కిరించేవారే అనాగరికులు.
